~ by Linda Witte Henke
ARTIST’S STATEMENTThis work images the Spirit's ongoing activity in gifting and empowering God's people. It was fashioned from hand-dyed silk habotai and silk organza, then embellished with hand-stitching and hand-crafted polymer clay tiles that were coated in metallic leaf.
Inspired by the geography of her own faith journey, Linda Witte Henke creates work that gives visual expression to spiritual themes and sacred texts. She is gratified when viewers experience her work as an invitation to reflect more deeply on their own beliefs or to embrace more nuanced understandings of the beliefs of others.
Drawn to the textile medium by its vibrant palette, tactile richness, and endless versatility, Henke especially enjoys bringing blank fabrics to life through layered introduction of dye, paint, paper, foil, stitch, and embellishment.Henke’s work is displayed in juried solo, group, and invitational exhibitions in Europe, Asia, and North America and resides in a variety of corporate and private collections. She also maintains an active commission schedule, primarily for projects purposed for liturgical use.
